Perspective?

This particular image comes under the category of aerial perspective as it was taken from above looking down. The black and white colours are obviously contrasting, where white symbolises purity and goodness and black symbolises fear and mystery. The image could also include a hidden self-portrait, it could be that the shadow is Josephson himself and the baby represents his past self as a child.

How the image is constructed/recorded:

The man has been photographed carefully, ensuring the correct position, he has obviously walked around until the sun was directly behind him in order to capture the perfect silhouette from his shadow. Then, the photographer has used aerial perspective to create the image, shooting the baby lying on the grass, with the shadow of the man falling from above.

The photograph gives the illusion of a silhouette standing upright holding the baby surrounded by a textured background.
